Riccaree 'Elkhorn' Vaughan (Cherokee/Mohawk) was born in Brooklyn, NY. His family is originally from Virginia and North Carolina, and he was raised in the ancestral beliefs of his people.

Elkhorn has given talks and lectures about Native history and culture at various universities, government institutions, and churches, and has supported the 'Beyond Coal' and 'Save the Mattawoman' campaigns sponsored by the Sierra Club.

He is also a Native American Storyteller, has told traditional stories at universities, public schools and pow wows, and recently presented stories at the Gathering of Nations Grand Pow Wow in Albuquerque, NM.

Elkhorn is a strong advocate for preservation of Native culture, and presently teaches a Cherokee (Tsalagi) Language class in this regard.

He has served as Vice-President of the American Indian Society of Washington, DC, is a member of several environmental organizations, and strives to support and protect the rights of Native Americans throughout the country.

It is Elkhorn's profound desire that Native and non-Native peoples work together to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle that reflects the beliefs and practices of the original inhabitants of this land we call 'Turtle Island'.
