Early Morning Dawn

introspection one morning

AUTUMN DAWN
ninth moon 11

The earliest pink of dawn crept across the Valley of Miracles. I lit a fire to greet the Dawn Star. The flames sang out and met the colors of fiery leaves, merging in the first rays of sunlight, uniting the red scrub oaks that walled the canyons with the magical valley below.

Although I could not see his face, Grandfather Sun's rays peaked above the eastern slopes, setting the western ridge on fire with the warmth of his light. The starlings began their dance of life, coming from their mud nest high in the cliff face, looking across the singing waters of Golden Earth Creek.

Four and a half million years ago, the glacier had made this valley, followed by the melting ice that cut snakelike ribbons through the Earth Mother's body, creating the creek bed, giving the Water Spirits a home. I became the witness to the wonder of all that had gone before. There, in my silence, listening to the songs of nature, my heart cried out, “Life is good!” As if they heard my silent scream, the Raven cawed, the Eagle flew over, the fire crackled, and we were one.
