Definition of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is one of the mysterious things we can encounter in life. More than an action it is a state of being attuned to what is beyond the immediate scope of the infraction or the misstep. You just can't say, "I forgive you." You have to absorb the energies of forgiveness to understand how to forgive. That understanding leads to learning how to forgive self and another. To forgive something bigger than personal affronts, societal conditions, like slavery, requires a visit to the divine elements of death and an active and imaginative processes with the mysterious wheels of Life. Forgiveness is that deep. It comes from the deep places of pain and rejection. To forgive is to understand the source of life, the etching and the structure of Creation and where one fits in the vast scheme of things that need each other.  ~ Gregory E. Woods, Keeper of Stories 7.5.14
